The One with the Mahi – Charleston Fishing Experience
“Mahi Mahi fishing in Charleston”
As told by Captain Tim of Charleston Fishing Experience
Now let me tell y’all about Sally and John – finest couple I’ve had aboard our offshore boat in a good while. Showed up at Shem Creek before sunrise on May 19th, 2024, looking like city folks but with saltwater in their souls. I could tell right away they weren’t your typical tourists – John kept staring at the rigging like he was memorizing it, and Sally? She touched the gunwale like she was greeting an old friend.
We had a nice ride out. Once we got to the fishing grounds we could see bait everywhere along all of grass lines. I knew then it would be a special day.
The fish bit like they’d gotten a memo. Sally pulled in a mahi that fought like the devil – took her clear around the stern twice before she wore him out. John? That man had the touch, landing fish after fish like he’d been doing it all his life. But here’s the thing – it wasn’t about the catch. It was the way they both got quiet when the tide turned, watching the sunlight dance across the water like they were seeing it for the first time. By the time we headed back, with the Charleston skyline glowing in the sunset, I could see it in their faces – they’d found what they didn’t know they were looking for. Ain’t that why we all keep coming back to the water?
